I, for one, have read Thucydides’ work on the peloponnesian war, and as far as my knowledge in history goes(which many not be that far), it is the best piece of history i have read. Not only because of the action and glory of the famous war between Spartans and Athenians, but the way he was able to transfer the knowledge from way back in the past, to a not extremely knowledgeable twelve year old boy in the present. I will not go as far as saying that reading book one of his writings was easy work, in fact, it was probably the hardest book I have ever read, and yet I now I know more about the peloponnesian war than anybody in my k-8 school.

Thucydides was essential in learning that the war made somewhat of a change in society today, and if his writing was in anyway like Finnegans Wake(try to read the first page of it, I dare you) it would have been very difficult to learn and teach people the history, and help to learn from those mistakes to make a better future, which is truly the point of history. In my words the ability that Thucydides had to give distant knowledge to people of the present is, in my words, extraordinary.
